YWEB-QC & Google IT Training

With the support of Google.org, and YWCA USA, YWCA Quad Cities is proud to present two IT training programs to individuals in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas. These training programs are FREE to all who are apply and are accepted. This initiative is part of Google.org’s $5 million dollar commitment to YWCA USA, to help YWCA’s improve their job training programs and to increase access to digital skills for women and underserved populations. In addition to HTML, CSS and JavaScript instruction, the YWCA program will include scholarships for the Google IT Support Certificate, a program designed to start or advance careers in IT. Computer rentals are available to those enrolled at no cost.

GOOGLE IT CERTIFICATES

Google IT Support Certificate can be earned fully online at your own pace – this is a great option for those who are currently employed; however, are looking for additional career growth and opportunity! There are various local IT jobs that are available to graduates of this program, with titles such as Systems Analyst, Support Specialist, Database Administrator, as well as many fully remote employment opportunities. When you complete this course, you will earn up to 12 college credits, and will be prepared to take the CompTIA A+ exams, which are the industry standard for IT. Scholarship fund are available for the exam if you are interested. You will also receive resources that will help you launch and advance your career, such as interview tips, mock interview and resume building workshops, as well as career coaching sessions. YWEB CAREER ACADEMY

The YWEB Career Academy is an employment service program created to provide education in digital skills to traditionally underrepresented or vulnerable populations, such as women, people of color, survivors of domestic violence, and low wage workers. It was designed to train individuals to become web developers/designers, while supporting them through the process with support services such as transportation assistance, financial coaching, childcare assistance, and job coaching and placement. Upon completion of the course, students will have opportunities to pursue internships or full-time employment through partnerships established by YWCA Quad Cities.

This program is 3 months long, with 400 hours of intensive technical training, which covers technical skills such as design, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and employability skills. This FREE program is available to those who:

  • are 18 years of age or older
  • have a high school diploma or GED (or are enrolled in a program that will result in obtaining a diploma/GED before completion of YWEB)
  • DO NOT have a college degree
  • have a 6th-7th grade English reading and writing ability
  • are currently unemployed or earning a low wage
  • have a desire to work in the IT field

Opportunities for the Google IT Certification program are open now, and the first YWEB cohort start date is still to be determined, but will be in the upcoming months. Candidates are also welcome to take both programs – this combination of education will better prepare you for a new career!
