Theplace2b opened in August 2010, geared to help displaced, homeless or at-risk youth. The first youth referred to us was 17 years-old and came all the way from Arkansas, homeless and sleeping under someone’s bed.
We began helping just one youth, and from there we have evolved to helping more than 1,000 youth in the Quad City area. We provide meals, job skills, and a safe place to hangout. We work to connect them with the resources that are available in the Quad City community such as housing programs and referrals to other agencies.
In the last year, we have placed many youth in transitional and permanent housing, as well as helped students get enrolled in classes and find jobs. We have provided thousands of meals for our youth, gone on field trips, and organized speakers and volunteers to help. We strive to meet the needs of each youth that walks through our doors.
Theplace2b operates because of the generous support of the Quad City community. We are always looking for donations – here are some items we are looking for:
- Individually wrapped snacks
- Bottled water
- Seasonally appropriate clothing
- Toothpaste, toothbrushes and other personal hygiene items
- Hair products for textured hair
- Crafting material and art supplies
