Looking for something fun to do with the family this holiday season? We here at the YWCA have put together a list of fun and inexpensive things you can do to get the kids ready for the holidays! From festivals to exhibits to lights, check out what’s going on locally!
Festival of Trees: RiverCenter
Cost: $10 for adults and $3 for children
Join a Quad Cities tradition from November 18th-27th! Located in Davenport, the RiverCenter hosts a variety of Christmas trees, as well as art displays, a gingerbread village, and appearances from Santa himself!
The Untold Story of Santa: The German Heritage Center
Cost: $5 for adults and $3 for children over 5 (under 5 free)
Check out the Untold Story of Santa as well as the giant advent calendar at the German Heritage Center in Davenport! The Santa exhibit was made by 7th graders at the Creative Arts Academy. For more information on dates and hours, visit the German Heritage Center’s website at
The Festival of Trees Parade: November 19th
The Festival of Trees parade takes place on Saturday the 19th at 9:45 am. The route is in downtown Davenport, and the parade will feature many large inflatables, as well as all kinds of floats. Dress warm and join the kick-off of the Festival of Trees!
The Lighting on the Commons: November 19th
The Lighting on the Commons takes place from 3:30-6:00 pm on November 19th at the John Deere Commons in downtown Moline. Enjoy tractor-drawn hayrack rides, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and choral performances from area schools. The Commons will be lit at 6:00 pm.
Christmas in the Village: December 2-3
Join the Village of East Davenport December 2nd and 3rd for the annual Christmas in the Village. The free event includes Santa, Scrooge, face painting, crafts, a small petting zoo and many other attractions. Visit their website for more information!
19th Century Christmas: December 4th
Join the Ben Butterworth Center in celebrating Christmas with festive decorations, an appearance by Santa, facepainting and crafts! The event will be in both the Butterworth Center and The Deere-Wiman Carriage House from 12-5 on the 4th.
Holiday Planetarium Show: December 10-16
Augustana College is hosting their annual Planetarium show on weekdays at 7pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. The show is free but reservations are requested. For more information and to make your reservation, go to http://helios.augustana.edu/astronomy/
Many houses in the area have light shows that start after Thanksgiving. Driving around to these shows is an inexpensive way to get into the Christmas spirit. Just put on the Christmas tunes, grab some hot coco and check out the amazing displays all in the Quad Cities!
Kall Christmas: 1852 Westminster Circle, Davenport IA
The Kall family has been putting on light shows for the past 8 years, and are one of the area favorites. Street parking is available, and you can also get out and watch on nice nights when the family comes out. Shows are every half hour on the half hour. Candy Cane Corner: 1004 15th Pl. Davenport, IA
Candy Cane Corner is on a corner lot, in a neighborhood with tons of lights. Stop by to see light shows programed to music, as well as tons of beautiful lights! Lights go on at 5pm each night.
Blanchard St Christmas Train: 2404 N Blanchard St, Davenport, IA

The Brown’s Christmas Lights: 517 45th Ave., East Moline, IL
Lights run from 5-10pm every night! Check out this fun, musical display with thousands of lights and fun, upbeat music. This show usually does not start until December. Check out their Facebook to stay up to date!/
Christmas Lights in the Valley: 140 W 2nd St, Coal Valley, IL
Winner of the Best Residential Display in Coal Valley in 2015, this show is set to music and plays 12 different songs! Lights run from dusk to 11pm!/
